We all have the need to be individuals, perhaps a desire to be unique--but we cannot go through life completely alone. Whether in happy relationships or disappointing personal conflicts, we remain connected to one another. In this series of works, my stick figures and paper dolls are caricatures acting out life's actions. Sewing patterns represent the culture of female childhood, a "girl language" symbolizing traditional values, roles, and morals expected of women in our society. The patterns create transparent layering and texure, much like the complexities of life. Color exploration adds depth and effect, pulling the composition together as a whole. The faces are "Biederfrau-esque" yet subtly unique, while the skeletons remind us that the dance might end at any moment.
